The Lions Club of Toukley is proud to celebrate an incredible milestone, recognising Lion Bruce Ferrif for 40 years of dedicated service to Lions and to the local community.
Bruce’s journey with Lions began on 17 November 1987, when he joined the Morisset Lions Club. Less than two years later, in May 1989, he transferred to the Lions Club of Toukley, where he has remained a valued and respected member ever since.
Over the past four decades, Bruce has become one of the club’s most dependable and recognisable members, quietly contributing thousands of volunteer hours in support of the community. Whether helping at fundraising events, taking on leadership responsibilities, or lending a hand wherever it is needed, Bruce has embodied the Lions’ motto of “We Serve.”
Throughout his time with Toukley Lions, Bruce has held an impressive range of leadership and service roles. He has served as Club President, Secretary, Safety Officer, Membership Chairman, Welfare Officer, Lion Tamer, and has been an active member of the Eyeglass Recycling Committee, helping collect and prepare donated glasses that are sent to developing countries to restore sight and improve lives. Bruce has also played an important role on the Christmas Cake Committee, the BBQ Fundraising Committee, and has chaired the Club’s Parks and Gardens Committee, helping maintain many of the projects that benefit the local community.
His commitment has not gone unnoticed. Over the years, Bruce has received numerous honours recognising his outstanding contribution, including the President’s Award, President’s Appreciation Award, Lion of the Year for the Lions Club of Toukley, and the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship, one of Lions Clubs International’s highest recognitions for exemplary humanitarian service.
Away from Lions, Bruce has also dedicated much of his working life to serving the community as the Postmaster at Wyong, where he became a familiar and friendly face to many local residents. Outside of volunteering, Bruce enjoys spending time with family and friends, particularly attending horse racing events and following horses in which he proudly holds a share. Those who know Bruce best often describe him as someone who is always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter the task.
Reflecting on Bruce’s remarkable contribution, Toukley Lions Club Treasurer Colin Pike said:
“Bruce has always shown up when the community has needed him. Whether it’s a fundraising barbecue, a working bee, or helping behind the scenes, he’s always there, ready to get the job done. For 40 years he has been an integral and highly respected member of Lions, and our community is better because of his service.”
Bruce’s 40 years of service represent far more than the positions he has held or the awards he has received. They represent four decades of selfless volunteering, countless friendships formed, and an unwavering commitment to making the Central Coast a better place for others.
