Toukley Lions Out and About Supporting Our Community

From community festivals and open days to fundraising BBQs and regional events, Toukley Lions is out and about supporting the Central Coast. If you have an upcoming community event, get in touch and see how Lions may be able to help.

From local cultural celebrations and community open days to major regional events and fundraising barbecues, the Lions Club of Toukley is proud to work alongside organisations throughout the Central Coast to help bring community events to life.

The months ahead will once again be busy for our Lions volunteers, with the Club confirming its involvement in a number of upcoming events across the region. For Toukley Lions, these events provide much more than an opportunity to raise funds — they allow our members to get out into the community, support other organisations and contribute the volunteers, equipment and experience needed to help make local events a success.

One of the Club’s most recognisable resources is our Lions BBQ Trailer, which regularly travels throughout the area to support community events. Whether we’re cooking sausages, feeding a crowd or raising funds for an important cause, the BBQ has become an important part of how Toukley Lions connects with and serves the community.

A Busy Calendar of Community Events

On 15 August, Toukley Lions will support Palmdale’s “Dying to Know Day”, with our BBQ Trailer positioned outside the chapel and Lions volunteers providing a free sausage BBQ for those attending. Palmdale is supporting the Club with a donation for our involvement, allowing Lions to provide the barbecue to attendees at no charge.

On 3 September, the BBQ Trailer will be back out in the community for the Yuna Gulgul Cultural Day at Toukley School. The Club was pleased to accept an invitation to participate and looks forward to supporting another local event that brings people together.

The following week, on 12 September, Toukley Lions will head to Wyong Racecourse for the Central Coast Emergency Service Expo, hosted by Central Coast Council. Lions will operate the BBQ Trailer during the event, giving visitors another opportunity to support our fundraising while learning more about the emergency services and organisations that serve our region.

Then, on 27 September, we’ll be supporting the Kanwal Vet Open Day, once again bringing along the Lions BBQ Trailer and providing food for those attending. Funds raised through the barbecue will go back to Toukley Lions, helping us continue supporting charities, community organisations and people in need.

Turning a Sausage Sizzle into Community Support

A Lions barbecue might look simple from the outside, but every sausage sold can contribute to something much bigger.

At its August meeting, the Club agreed that funds raised through its upcoming Bunnings BBQs will be donated to the Lions Biggest BBQ, an initiative raising funds to support the fight against childhood cancer.

This is an important part of what community fundraising means to Toukley Lions. Our members volunteer their time, the community supports the fundraiser, and the proceeds can then be directed towards causes where they can make a difference.

The results of those efforts add up. During the previous year, Toukley Lions generated approximately $30,000 through BBQ activities alone, alongside approximately $24,000 through the Toukley Lions Sunday Markets. These fundraising activities form an important part of the Club’s ability to give back through donations and community projects.

More Than Fundraising

Our involvement in community events isn’t always about raising money.

Sometimes it’s simply about providing volunteers, equipment and a helping hand to another organisation. At other times, it’s about creating an affordable or free activity for the community, supporting a worthwhile cause, or working alongside another group to make their event better.

Behind every event are Lions members setting up equipment, preparing food, serving visitors, packing everything away and giving their time to help make it happen.

It’s all part of the Lions motto, “We Serve.”
