Toukley Lions Markets – A Long-Running Community Favourite

The Toukley Lions Markets have been a long-standing community tradition for around 50 years, bringing locals and visitors together every Sunday morning.

For many years, the Toukley Lions Markets have been a much-loved part of the local community, bringing people together every Sunday morning to browse stalls, enjoy the atmosphere, and support local traders. The markets have become a regular weekend destination for both residents and visitors, offering a relaxed and welcoming environment where people can spend time with family and friends while discovering a wide variety of goods.

Held every Sunday from 8:00am to 1:00pm on Yaralla Road in Toukley, next to the Coles carpark, the markets feature a diverse mix of stalls. Visitors can find everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to handmade crafts, plants, clothing, collectables, tools, gifts, and second-hand treasures. With new stallholders attending regularly, there is always something different to explore, making each visit to the markets a unique experience.

The Toukley markets have a long history in the area and have been operating for around 50 years, becoming a well-established part of community life. Over the decades the markets have grown and adapted, but they have always maintained their focus on providing an accessible and friendly marketplace where local sellers and community members can connect.

In recent years, the Lions Club of Toukley stepped in to revive and operate the markets, ensuring this long-standing community tradition could continue. After a period when the markets had slowed due to changing management and the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, Lions volunteers worked hard to re-establish the markets and restore them as a thriving weekly event.

Since taking over the operation of the markets, the Toukley Lions have helped bring renewed energy and community spirit back to the event. The markets now regularly attract a strong mix of stallholders and visitors each week, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere in the heart of Toukley.

Importantly, the markets are not only a place to shop — they are also an important community fundraising initiative. Because the markets are run by the Lions Club of Toukley, funds raised through stallholder fees help support the club’s charitable work. These funds assist local organisations, community projects, and individuals in need throughout the region.

The markets also provide an important opportunity for local small businesses, hobbyists, and community members to showcase their products. Many stallholders are local residents who use the markets as a way to share their crafts, produce, or unique items with the community. For many visitors, part of the enjoyment of the markets comes from meeting the people behind the stalls and discovering locally made products.

Beyond the shopping experience, the markets help create a strong sense of community connection. Each week people gather not just to browse the stalls, but also to catch up with friends, enjoy a walk through the market, and experience the welcoming atmosphere that has made the Toukley markets a community tradition.

The continued success of the markets is made possible by the dedication of Lions volunteers, who work behind the scenes to organise stallholders, manage the site, and ensure the markets run smoothly every week. Their efforts help ensure that the markets remain a safe, friendly, and enjoyable event for everyone who attends.

Today, the Toukley Lions Markets remain a vibrant and successful weekly event, reflecting the strong community spirit of the area. With ongoing support from stallholders, visitors, and volunteers, the markets continue to thrive as a gathering place where the community can come together while supporting the charitable work of the Lions Club of Toukley.
